A Tale of Two Roses Shows Etiquette (or the lack of)

While watching a video of Sen McCain & Obama, I noticed the difference of how the two showed a different action of "placing" roses at the memorial site for 9-11. Obama threw/tossed his roses like when tossing pennies into a fountain at the mall, McCain, and Cindy, bent down towards the 9-11 memorial to "place" the roses with the others. I immediately got the impression that "O" seems to not really care, like he just wanted it to be over so he could leave. The McCain's seemed more genuine and respectful . Is it me? How do you view this?
